Clash Magazine premieres the return of Kasket Club and Soul Gem

Read article via Clash Magazine.

” It’s a slinky yacht-pop jammer, one that finds Kasket Club colluding with Soul Gem for something retro but neatly future-facing. “ – Clash Magazine

Kasket Club and Soul Gem started working together when they both studied in New York four years ago. Using whatever equipment available in their dorm, their efforts resulted in a few releases with Pasha, Soul Gem and Kasket Club.

This summer the guys finally decided to team up officially on a new series of releases, combining their different vocals and production styles in an innovative combination of vintage disco, indie pop and french house. Heavily layered sampling techniques, a powerful presence of organic sounds and dreamy vocals gives a sound reminiscent of french electro pioneers such as Daft Punk, M83 and Madeon, and modern disco and funk bands such as Jungle, Toro y Moi, Tame Impala, Parcels, Poolside and Panama.

Kasket Club released their debut single “Moody Melody” in 2012. With instant support from tastemakers such Majestic Casual and French Symphony, the band quickly reached the top of Hype Machine and became among the bands to spearhead the chilwave genre together with bands such as Neon Indian, Washed Out and Brother Tiger. Three EP’s later, the band teamed up with Tony Hawk and Nyjah Huston’s charity “Let It Flow” to donate all proceeds from “Straight West” to the cause of building wells in Africa. Continuing to top the Hype Machine charts the band gained millions of streams, airplay around the globe and played shows all across Northern Europe.

Soul Gem began sharing his music in the soundcloud-sphere, getting support from channels such as Ebro on Beats 1, Riptide Mag, Eargasmic and Funky Panda. Teaming up with the retro flavoured rapper Pasha on funky hip hop tracks, the artists received solid airplay and millions of streams. Compared to hip hop legend Pharrell Williams, Soul Gem has been part of Pasha’s live show, touring the globe.

Kicking off their new collab series, “Miles Away” has a distinct vintage vibe, heavily infused by sample esthetics, flanger-y and phased guitars and drums. With an upbeat, modern take on indie disco, the guys show case a powerful, yet laidback sound serving as the prototype of the prospective releases.

Together with the title track, the band decided to add on the B-side “Self Control” to balance out the energy of the release. With an organic production the guys combined soulful piano chords with laidback guitar riffs and lofi vocals to create a soundscape packed with nostalgia and melancholy.
